How to: Festive Plates for Thanksgiving

Good Morning my beauties!

It’s been three days now that daylight savings time ended and I don’t think my body is nearly as adjusted as I would like it to.  I would just like to not feel tired super early and get out of work with sunlight still out is that too much to ask for? I hope you guys have adjusted or are at least adjusting a lot better than I am.

So it’s officially the second week of November and I’m just like freaking out about how fast time is flying!  It’s almost time for Thanksgiving which btw is my FAVORITE holiday!  When I think of Thanksgiving I think of family, comfort, love and of course food!  Speaking of food, I love the Thanksgiving dinner table set ups!  They are so gorgeous and of course with the food and colors it’s just a beautiful holiday with beautiful décor.  I found some plates at Crate & Barrel that I fell in love with!

So I decided I would do a fun DIY to see if I could replicate the same plates.  Well my handwriting skills are terrible so I decided to switch it up and make a gold leaf.  This is so easy to do and really inexpensive!

These are the items you need:

  • Plain white salad plates (got mine at Ikea for $1.00!)
  • Gold permanent marker
  • Leaf
  • Tape

Step 1

Tape the leaf down on the plate.

Step 2

With the gold marker start making dots tracing the leaf.  Just make sure to make a bunch of small dots!

Step 3

Take the leaf off the plate.  Continue to make polka dots around your trace and start spreading them out.  Keep going until you feel the plate is what you want it to look like.

As I mentioned before this is a super easy tutorial that anyone can do!  If you have some old dishes you’ve been wanting to throw up or even have some plain dishes that could use some sprucing, try this out!  I promise it will become a whole new dish!

I hope you all enjoyed this tutorial and hope that you can use it for our upcoming holidays!  What are some of your favorite things about Thanksgiving?  Let me know down below!

XOXO,

Silvia M.

Cute idea! Do you need to glaze over the gold paint or anything to make it food safe? I would assume you probably wouldn’t want to put this in the dishwasher?

You can add the mod podge dishwasher safe gloss to put in the dishwasher. 🙂

Thank you! And yes! I’ve read that if you put them in the oven for 30 minutes at a temperature of 425 and then hand wash them, you will be able to use them with food! 🙂

This is such a creative idea. Some of my favorite things about Thanksgiving is watching football games (of course spending time with family too).

That is such a cute idea! We aren’t hosting Thanksgiving, but we are in charge of Christmas, so I will most likely use this idea for Christmas themed plates!

I love this idea. I am just curious if the paint is going to leach into the food or are the plates just being used for decoration?

I read a similar DIY where the girl put the dishes in the oven for 30 minutes and then hand washed them and ate off of them. She said it worked perfectly! 🙂 But if you don’t feel safe you can always use them as decorations!
